David Hayes is optimistic Gorky Park will make an impact in the better staying races this campaign after posting his first win since recovering from a tendon injury.

The dual Group One-placed son of Montjeu posted his third win when he landed the No Fuss Solutions Cup (2394m) at Caulfield, beating last start Warrnambool Cup placegetter Action Plan and Good Red in a three-way finish.

"That was first time he's been back to mile and a half (2400m) and I think he knocked up a little bit late in the race with the 58 kilos on his back," Hayes said.

"He has had a different sort of build-up because he had the tendon injury and I think he will just get better now that he's racing at the distance."

Last season Gorky Park was a top staying three-year-old when he finished second to Efficient in the 2006 Victoria Derby and third to Blutigeroo and Railings in last year's Group One The BMW.

He was found to have bowed his tendon after his fifth to Fiumicino in the AJC Australian Derby in April last year but with stem cell treatment he has made a complete recovery.

"With the stem cell treatment his tendon looks fantastic now," Hayes said.

"Normally tendons are week-in week-out but I feel very confident he's going to stand up for at least ten or 12 runs."

Gorky Park having his fifth start this campaign and he has improved with every run as his race distances have increased.

"He's genuine mile and half horse and just dominates at that distance," Hayes said.

"His second in the Victoria Derby was to Efficient who is one of the best winners in recent years."

Hayes said Gorky Park had been problem free all campaign and that he was now ready to target stronger races.

"I thought he looked a treat today and he's still got lots of improvement in him," Hayes said.

Hayes will decide this week whether Gorky Park backs up in Saturday's Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes (3200m) at Flemington.

He is also considering a Queensland campaign for the entire with his primary goal the weight-for-age Group Two P J O'Shea Stakes (2200m) at Eagle Farm on May 31.
