| Saturday, 10 May 2008 By Mark Ryan Caulfield Cup winner Master O'Reilly finished unplaced but pleased trainer Danny O'Brien in his cameo appearance in the Group Three Gerard Corporation Stakes at Morphettville. The O'Reilly five-year-old, having his first outing since finishing eighth behind Efficient in the Melbourne Cup last spring came from second last to finish eighth to Autumn Jeuney, beaten less than two lengths, in the 1600m feature. Ridden by Vlad Duric, Master O'Reilly wasn't suited by the slow speed but worked home well in the straight. "It was a muddling run race and he was cluttered up. Vlad will tell me, but to my eye he looked pretty well and had plenty to give if it was a better run race," O'Brien said. "He'll have three or four weeks out now and then we'll get him ready for the Makybe Diva. "He has a good fitness base which he should maintain through to the spring." Jeune four-year-old mare, Autumn Jeuney, prepared at Mount Gambier by Michael O'Leary, was ridden to victory by Dwayne Dunn to beat three-year-old Goin To Jackson with Peacemaker third. |
